Workshop "From Black Sea to Aegean - new opportunities for tourism and accompanying business"

A workshop on the project "From Black Sea to Aegean Sea - new opportunities for tourism and accompanying business" was held on the 19th and the 20th of October 2015 in Burgas, implemented by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Burgas and Keshan,Turkey. As Radko Drenchev- the project manager noted, the objective is the promotion of unknown and little - known tourist sites in Bulgaria and Turkey, leading to new opportunities for tourism and accompanying business.

President of Burgas Chamber of Commerce and Industry eng. Tcanko Ivanov welcomed the participants and wished success in the implementation of the project. He stressed on the common maritime culture of both municipalities, the main important structural role of tourism in the local economy, rich cultural heritage and good infrastructure as part of the many prerequisites for creating business partnerships with Keshan.

Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of Keshan Mr. Mustafa Ischemen thanked for the hospitality of the hosts and expressed hope that the project will conduct to market research to uncover ways of joint tourist activity. He concluded that the geographical proximity of the two municipalities will allow for more tourists.

In the first part of the meeting participants from Bulgarian side presented the towns of Aheloy, Pomorie and the tourist site Beklig Tash. The presentation of Ira Dolapchieva suggested the fact that Ahtopol is the most southern Bulgarian city, combining beautiful and clean nature, cultural and historical sites and quietness, making it a favorite vacation spot for families with children and adult people. Slavina Stoyanova presented the fishing, salt production, mud and wine as major activities that support tourism in Pomorie. Fifteen thousand city is living for tourists and invests in guesthouses and small family hotels to completely satisfy customers and make them come back again. Numerous festivals prolong the summer season and contribute to the good mood and unforgettable memories of the guests. They develop pedestrian and bicycle routes.

Tonka Valeva, a chief expert of tourism in the municipality of Primorsko presented the remarkable megalithic sanctuary Beglik Tash dedicated to the Sun god and goddess Earth. She noted that this year for the summer music festival "Spirit of Burgas" Turkish tourists were accommodated in Primorsko. They had shown their great interest in the cultural and historical landmarks of the municipality.

Mr. Ischemen made a presentation of municipality of Keshan in the second part of the meeting. Keshan is one of the largest and most southern municipality in the district of Edirne with a population of about 70 000 people and access to the Aegean Sea. Trade, agriculture, health activities and health tourism are well developed. The so called Silk Road goes through these places and the municipal authorities are trying to rebuild it as a historical landmark.

In Saros sea water purifies itself thanks to 28 watercourses. This makes the place very suitable for diving. Tourists can see over 140 species of fish and as many other marine species and unique underwater museum designed to combine entertainment and education.

Archaeologists from the University of Thrace already have identified sites for excavation, which is expected to yield interesting findings.
